Written Mediation for 1º- 2º ESO students

Teaching mediation to 1st and 2nd year ESO students can be challenging, especially when many of them are still working below or around an A2 level.

Mediation is not always easy for them to understand. They often think they have to translate every word, when the real aim is to select the most important information and explain it clearly in English. For students with limited vocabulary, this can feel overwhelming.

In mixed-ability classrooms, this becomes even more difficult. Some students need a lot of support with basic sentence structure, while others are ready to write more independently. As teachers, we need materials that are clear, visual and accessible, but still useful for real classroom practice and exam preparation.

That is why I created this A1 Written Mediation Pack.

This pack is especially useful for low-level groups, mixed-ability classes and students who need extra support with writing. It includes guided tasks, visual input, sentence starters, exam-style practice, answer keys and a self-assessment rubric.

I hope you lilke it.

Book Day : Discovering Shakespeare and Cervantes Through Speaking

If you are looking for engaging ways to combine culture and communication in your English lessons, these two resources are designed to do exactly that. Focused on the lives of William Shakespeare and Miguel de Cervantes, they move beyond passive reading and place students at the centre of the learning process.

In both activities, learners work collaboratively: each student holds different pieces of information and must ask their partner questions to complete the full picture. This information gap approach promotes real interaction, encourages the use of meaningful questions, and reinforces key biographical content in a dynamic way.

Ideal for A2–B1 levels, these materials integrate culture, speaking practice, and cooperative learning—making literature more accessible and communicative in the classroom.

Do you want to celebrate St. Patrick's day in class?

Here you have two resources to work on St. Patrick's day:

March is a significant month for the Irish. They celebrate St. Patrick's day, which began as a religious festival in Ireland but has since become a global phenomenon.

But who was St. Patrick? Below, you’ll find the materials I’ve prepared for my students. You can also use the video provided at the end.

I hope you and your students enjoy it!

Every year, millions of people ring in the New Year by reflecting on their lives and setting goals for what they want to change, improve, or accomplish. Below, you’ll find a selection of videos you can use in class with different levels.

Wishing you a year full of progress — and the satisfaction of achieving your resolutions!

1. A cartoon video in which a cat guides students to guess his owners’ New Year’s resolutions. You can use it with lower-level groups or classes that need scaffolding.

2. A cartoon video in which two friends talk about their New Year’s resolutions. You can play it in class and ask your students to role-play the dialogue.

If you need more material, here I let you the link to Back to Class – Speaking Christmas & New Year  — a ready‑to‑use speaking activity to get your students talking about their holiday experiences and ease them back into English after the Christmas break.
