Teaching mediation to 1st and 2nd year ESO students can be challenging, especially when many of them are still working below or around an A2 level.
Mediation is not always easy for them to understand. They often think they have to translate every word, when the real aim is to select the most important information and explain it clearly in English. For students with limited vocabulary, this can feel overwhelming.
In mixed-ability classrooms, this becomes even more difficult. Some students need a lot of support with basic sentence structure, while others are ready to write more independently. As teachers, we need materials that are clear, visual and accessible, but still useful for real classroom practice and exam preparation.
That is why I created this A1 Written Mediation Pack.
This pack is especially useful for low-level groups, mixed-ability classes and students who need extra support with writing. It includes guided tasks, visual input, sentence starters, exam-style practice, answer keys and a self-assessment rubric.
